Negative Pull-Up — back compound exercise in the LIFTAG library

Negative Pull-Up

Compound · Weight × reps · Time

Use a box or safe step to begin with the chin above a secure bar; do not jump blindly into position. The negative pull-up emphasizes eccentric work by the back, biceps, forearms, and grip and can help build capacity for full pull-ups. Stop when descent speed can no longer be controlled, and use assistance rather than dropping from the bar.

HOW TO DO NEGATIVE PULL-UP

  1. Grip firmly, brace the trunk, and take full body weight before removing the feet.
  2. Lower as slowly and evenly as possible until the elbows are straight and the shoulders reach a comfortable hang, then step back up for the next repetition.
  3. Keep the volume modest because slow eccentrics can cause substantial soreness.
