Close-Grip Pull-Up — back compound exercise in the LIFTAG library

Close-Grip Pull-Up

Compound · Weight × reps

The close grip trains the back, biceps, brachialis, forearms, and grip through a different joint position, but it does not isolate the arms or guarantee more mid-back work than other widths.

HOW TO DO CLOSE-GRIP PULL-UP

  1. Hang from a secure bar with an overhand grip narrower than or near shoulder width, leaving enough space for the wrists to remain comfortable.
  2. Set the shoulders, brace the trunk, and pull by driving the elbows down until the chin clears the bar or you reach a controlled top position.
  3. Lower smoothly to a full comfortable hang without swinging.
  4. Keep the hands only as close as wrist and shoulder comfort allow, and use assistance for strict repetitions.
