Yates Row — back compound exercise in the LIFTAG library

Yates Row

Compound · Weight × reps

Avoid standing up with each repetition or using a load that strains the supinated grip. The more upright torso and tucked elbows distinguish this from a Pendlay or conventional bent row and increase biceps contribution, but they do not isolate the lower lats; use an angled bar if needed.

HOW TO DO YATES ROW

  1. Hold the bar with a shoulder-width underhand grip and hinge to a moderately inclined, braced torso rather than a near-horizontal position.
  2. Pull the bar toward your lower abdomen with elbows close to your sides, then lower until the arms are long.
  3. Keep the bar over midfoot and wrists aligned.
