Close-Neutral Seated Row — back compound exercise in the LIFTAG library

Close-Neutral Seated Row

Compound · Weight × reps

This neutral-grip row trains the latissimus, mid-back, biceps, brachialis, and forearms; the closer elbow path changes leverage but does not uniquely create “back thickness.” Keep wrists aligned, chest supported, and shoulders away from the ears.

HOW TO DO CLOSE-NEUTRAL SEATED ROW

  1. Set the seat and chest support so you can reach the close parallel handles without rounding the back.
  2. Grip with palms facing each other, brace, and pull toward the lower ribs or upper waist while keeping the elbows close to the torso.
  3. Pause without leaning back, then return the handles slowly and allow the shoulder blades to move forward under control.
  4. Adjust the seat or range if the handles force an awkward wrist or shoulder position.
