HOW TO DO ACTIVE HANG
- Hang from a secure bar with straight elbows and a comfortable overhand or neutral grip.
- Without bending the arms, gently draw the shoulders away from the ears so the shoulder blades rotate and depress, then maintain a long trunk with the ribs controlled.
- Breathe while holding this active position and avoid squeezing the shoulder blades forcefully together or arching the lower back.
- The active hang develops grip endurance and isometric control around the shoulder girdle, providing a useful starting position for pull-ups and lever skills.
- It is not automatically therapeutic for every shoulder.
- Use foot support to reduce load and stay within a comfortable overhead range.
