Wide Push-Up

Compound · Weight × reps

A wider base changes shoulder and elbow angles, but it should not be described as isolating or necessarily activating the chest more; research often finds lower pectoral and triceps activity than with narrower positions. Use only a moderate, comfortable width, keep forearms controlled, and return to a standard hand position if the front of the shoulder or wrist feels strained.

HOW TO DO WIDE PUSH-UP

  1. Set the hands wider than shoulder width in a position that feels stable at the wrists and shoulders.
  2. Brace into a straight plank, bend the elbows, and lower the chest under control without shrugging or letting the hips sag.
  3. Press evenly through the palms to return to straight arms.
