Curtsy Lunge

Compound · Weight × reps

The curtsy lunge changes the frontal-plane and rotational demands on the glutes, quadriceps, hip stabilizers, and balance, but the crossed position is not necessary for general leg strength. Use only a small diagonal step that lets the front knee track comfortably, avoid twisting through the knee, and choose a reverse lunge instead if the hip or knee feels constrained.

HOW TO DO CURTSY LUNGE

  1. Stand tall and step one foot diagonally behind the other into a crossed stance.
  2. Keep the front foot planted and pelvis facing mostly forward as both knees bend and the rear knee lowers behind the front leg.
  3. Press through the front foot to uncross and return to standing, then alternate sides.
