The shrimp squat is an advanced single-leg squat for the quadriceps and glutes with high balance and knee-flexion demands. Practise to a pad or raised target, use external support, and progress depth gradually. Stop if the kneecap, ankle, or held leg becomes painful.

HOW TO DO SHRIMP SQUAT

  1. Stand on one leg and bend the other knee so the foot stays behind you; hold that foot with the same-side hand in the common assisted version.
  2. Brace, reach the free arm forward, and lower on the stance leg while the rear knee travels toward the floor.
  3. Keep the stance foot grounded and knee aligned, then drive through it to stand without pulling aggressively on the held foot.
