Handstand Push-Up

Compound · Weight × reps

The handstand push-up is an advanced vertical press for the shoulders and triceps that also demands overhead mobility, balance, and trunk control. Build prerequisite strength with pike push-ups and partial ranges. Use a stable wall, a padded target, and a safe method of exiting the handstand.

HOW TO DO HANDSTAND PUSH-UP

  1. Place the hands about shoulder-width apart near a wall and enter a controlled wall-supported handstand.
  2. Brace the trunk and glutes, keep the elbows tracking rather than flaring excessively, and lower until the head lightly reaches a pad or your controlled range.
  3. Press the floor away to return to straight arms without relaxing into the neck or lower back.
