Back Lever Hold — shoulders exercise in the LIFTAG library

Back Lever Hold

Time

From an inverted hang on secure rings or a bar, lower the straight body toward horizontal with the chest facing the floor. The back lever is an advanced straight-arm skill that places substantial load on the shoulders, chest, biceps tendons, back, trunk, and grip. Develop skin-the-cat control and tuck, advanced-tuck, one-leg, or straddle holds first. Progress leverage slowly, use low equipment and mats, and stop at shoulder or elbow discomfort.

HOW TO DO BACK LEVER HOLD

  1. Keep the elbows locked, shoulders active in extension, pelvis neutral, and legs together so the body forms one firm line.
  2. Hold only the angle you can control, then return to the inverted position or exit through a practised route.
